Dear Neighbors,
Here is an update on the families made homeless by last week’s fire.

1. Good news!  Two of the 4 families in the shelter have found apartments.  One family found a landlord who waived the security deposit (people are good) so they need one month’s rent. The rent is $800 and the family has savings of $200. so they need $600
The second family has a section 8 certificate. The apartment they are renting costs $1150 a month and they have to pay $575/month. So we hope to raise the first month’s rent for them
I have raised $400 toward the $1175 we need
If you wish to contribute please make out the check the Alpha Community Services. This agency is providing shelter and casework services for the 4 families. The CEO agreed to be a pass through for the funds raised for the rent. That means that the money will be used to pay the rent with no overhead charge by the agency.
Please send the checks to me, Edie Cassidy at 245 Ellsworth St. 06605 or email me and I will come pick it up. My goal is to have the money in hand by Tuesday so the families can be settled by the end of the week before the holidays

2. A fund has been created to help the two young boys who parents died in the fire who did not go to a shelter but were
taken in by relatives, Jesus and Arturo Iselo.  Checks to help them can be sent to Msgr Villamide at St. Peter’s Parish
      695 Colorado Ave. Bpt 06605

We still have two families in the shelter. I will keep you updated. But thanks to your generosity clothing, food and Christmas gifts are all taken care of

Message from Black Rock Community Council

Help Our Black Rock Boys
Recently two local boys, Arturo and Jesus Iselo lost their parents and young brother in a terrible fire. Though the magnitude of this tragedy is incomprehensible, there
are ways that you can help. A fund has been created at St. Peter’s Parish that will provide direct assistance to these two brothers with their ongoing needs. The trustees
for this fund are Black Rock resident Tom Mulligan and Monsignor Aniceto Villamide, the pastor of St. Peter’s Parish and two programs have been created by the
Black Rock Community Council and the S.S. Norden Club to help raise money for this cause.
“The Tree of Hope”
The S.S. Norden Club is sponsoring a Christmas Tree Ornament Sale with all proceeds to be directed toward this fund. The ornaments cost $5.00 each and will be put on the forty foot Christmas Tree recently placed on the Norden’s harborside lawn. Participants are encouraged to write a short message on their respective bulb which can be purchased at the Norden Club, the Port Five Naval Veterans, Harborview Market and other locations along Fairfield Ave.
“The BRCC Matching Fund Program”
The Black Rock Community Council is accepting monetary donations for this fund which they will match with a 20% donation for the
first $2,500.00 raised. Checks can be made payable to the Black Rock Community Council and sent to 2470 Fairfield Ave. Please write “Aid Fund” on the memo section of the check. We will post and update the total money raised on the home page of our website–www.blackrockcc.org
