Subject: NorEaster Damage Information
As we all know the City of Bridgeport has experienced major flooding due to the weekend Nor’Easter and many of its home and business owners are wondering what they should do?
The City of Bridgeport Emergency Operations Center was activated at Noon Saturday to a Level One (Monitoring) by Mayor Fabrizi and since Late Afternoon Sunday EOC Teams have been conducting damage assessments throughout the City.
Governor Rell is putting together a letter urging the President and Homeland Security/FEMA to declare Connecticut a Presidential Declared Area due to the Nor’Easter. In the meantime, we must take steps now to gather all pertinent information.
We urge all home and business owners to conduct the following steps. Please keep always in mind safety first:
1) Document all damages caused by the flooding with either pictures and/or video
2) Describe on a piece of 8 ½ x 11 paper (use additional sheets as
necessary), the damages caused by the flooding in a brief narrative outlining items, equipment, etc; damaged and the costs associated with these damages or losses.
3) List the date and invoice number of any bills associated with the
flooding and include the dollar amount associated with these invoices (example: cleanup service ABC, invoice or bill # 12345, cost $$$ do this for each service rendered). If you would like please submit a copy of these bills along with your narrative.
4) Indicate if your insurance covers any damages. If your insurance does cover your damages please indicate what your deductible is for this policy.
a. For Example: If you do not have flood insurance and your insurance does not cover flood damage then please indicate this by listing no coverage.
b. If you have flood insurance and your losses are $1 million dollars and your insurance covers all damages, but your deductible is $100,000 then your damage is $100,000 not $1 million. This is a FEMA assistance standard for documenting losses.
5) Send this information no later than Friday April 20, 2007 to:
City of Bridgeport OEMHS
Subject: Flood Damage
30 Congress Street
Bridgeport, CT 06604
You may also drop it off at Fire Headquarters (30 Congress Street, 3rd Floor) or at the Mayor’s Office (999 Broad Street 2nd Floor). This information will be documented and provided to FEMA during their Damage Assessment Procedures.
"I have already spoken with FEMA Officials in regards to the damages experienced by this weekends Nor'Easter here in the City of Bridgeport. I have all Emergency Operations Staff working on gathering all pertinent information and I urge all home and business owners to fully document damages, costs and to submit it to the City EOC, Mayor Fabrizi has stated.
We urge all home and business owners who need damages fixed now to contact licensed service providers only and make sure they document everything.
We are very sorry but the City of Bridgeport does not pump out basements but will assist you in turning off any utility services if safety is a concern.
If there are any additional questions pertaining to flood damage recovery we recommend and urge home and business owners to go to the City of Bridgeport Website and click on Emergency Flood Recovery Tips on the main page. For additional information on Emergency and Disaster Preparedness they should go to the Office of Emergency
Management & Homeland Security Department site to learn more about all hazard prevention, planning, response and recovery.
In addition, home and business owners may contact 2-1-1 for additional
assistance and/or to be directed to pertinent City Agencies that will assist in answering any questions or concerns.
Lastly please continue to listen to your local media outlets for any and all future emergency instructions and/or alerts.
Please stay safe, stay calm and let’s work together to recover from this
horrible storm event!
