Help Black Rock School Add 7th and 8th Grades
February 8, 2010 by admin commentPlease attend the Board of Education meeting this Monday, February 8, 2010 at 6:30 pm to show your support for adding seventh and eighth grades at Black Rock School. The meeting will be held at Geraldine Johnson School, 475 Lexington Avenue. (Corner of North Avenue.) Students in K-8 schools show higher self-esteem, less victimization by other students, greater levels of participation in extracurricular activities, and healthier adolescent development. Standardized test scores in reading, math, and science are significantly stronger in K-8 schools than in middle schoolsThe continuity of K-8 schooling reduces feelings of anonymity that can result in negative coping mechanisms such as fighting or displaying a "don't care" attitude.
