Ash Creek Conservation Association Fights Toner Dock

We have some exciting news. Attorney Barry Hawkins of Shipman and Goodwin LLP, one of the most highly regarded law firms in Connecticut, has agreed to provide us with legal representation for the DEP Hearings on the Toner dock. We are very grateful and appreciate this amazing gift. We will still incur expenses for expert witnesses, transcript services, etc., but we must act quickly or the DEP will carry through with its approval of this 60 foot dock with a boat lift for a 24 foot powerboat.

Weekend Events in Black Rock - August 29-Sept 1

The Acoustic Café (335-3655) - three performers on Friday night (8/29) at 9 PM – Strawberry Brown, Carol Piro of Third Sister and Rachel Detroy ($10) and the jam band, Juggling Suns, on Saturday night (8/30) starting at 9 PM ($8). There will also be an Open Mic night on Tuesday (9/3) at 9 PM ($3) and an Open Blues Jam on Wednesday (9/4) at 9 PM ($3).

Toner Dock - Largest One on Ash Creek

This will be the third dock to be built on Ash Creek. The DEP has granted tentative approval for Steven Toner to build a 60 foot dock on the Fairfield side, which will be very visible from St. Mary's beach and Gilman Street. The DEP gave their approval despite a letter from the Bureau of Aquaculture stating that the project would cause significant harm to the shellfish. Mr. Toner wants to put 24’ foot powerboat there and it will have boat lifts to store two boats.

Update on Black Rock Train Station - July 28

A front page article in the Fairfield Minuteman on July 24, 2008 noted that the demolition work was completed on the site in the middle of May and that the developer, BlackRock Realty LLC is searching for a contractor to work on remediation of the site, which would include the containment and removal of contaminated materials. The remediation plan was submitted to the DEP and approved by them.
