A new osprey nesting platform has been erected on Burr Creek in Black Rock. The Arthur Street Neighbors Committee received city permission to build and install a wooden nesting platform for ospreys on an unused utility pole on a small city green space directly on Burr Creek. The platform was put into place on November 21, 2009.

Members of the Ash Creek Conservation Association gathered at Harborview Market on July 18, 2009 to celebrate their latest victory in protecting the Ash Creek tidal estuary. Gail Robinson, President of the Ash Creek Conservation Association delivered the following words of thanks to those who contributed to this latest accomplishment:
You may have been reading the Connecticut Post's series called "Breaking the Sound Barrier". Ash Creek was mentioned in one article in the series in the Friday, June 26 edition of the Connecticut Post. The article said that the creek has seen a resurgence of wildlife in recent years. The Ash Creek Conservation Association was formed six years ago to preserve and protect the Ash Creek tidal estuary. It has been involved in education and advocacy from grassroots level through the highest levels of state government, resulting most recently in a ruling by the DEP that has given
The Ash Creek Conservation Association won a major victory with regards to the Toner dock application. The Proposed Final Decision issued on June 23 not only impacts Toner’s dock, in denying the dock application, but future dock applications, (if any) in tidal wetlands throughout Connecticut with powerboat use are unlikely to be approved.
