BREAKING NEWS: An article in today's CT Post states that social clubs will be allowed in the AA residential zone! Please attend the hearing tonight. This will be your last chance to influence the new zoning plan. The public hearing on the proposed changes in zoning regulations will be held tonight at 6 PM on Monday, November 10 at City Hall on Lyons Terrace. Please plan to attend as this will be the only chance the public has to speak out on the issue. The error-filled draft of the new zoning regulations will not be corrected until

An article on the proposed zoning regulations was published in the Connecticut Post. It states that the October 6 Zoning Hearing will still occur, but the City told me that that meeting had been postponed as well, since it must occur after the public hearing. I believe that the City must publish a public notice in the newspaper for both the public hearing in which residents can speak out and for the public hearing in which the Zoning Commission reports out, but where the public cannot speak.

The Zoning Commission hearing on Monday, September 22 in which the public would have a chance to comment on the proposed zoning regulations has been postponed according to Mary Puccio of the Zoning Department. She said that there will be a public notice in the newspaper about this tomorrow. Please also look for the Connecticut Post news story on the proposed zoning regulation changes. The information we have been receiving from the City on the proposed changes has been confusing (typos?

Does the Zoning Commission want to change Residential AA and Residential A standards? Well, the answer depends on who you talk to. The Connecticut Post will be covering this story and we can expect to see it published on Friday or Saturday. At least residents will be made aware of the changes proposed in the Draft Zoning Regulations and can decide whether or not to comment on them before the regulations are approved. Monday evening, September 22, at 6 PM is the ONLY opportunity that the public will have to speak out on the changes. W

LATEST UPDATE: The City told the press that the changes to the Residential A are also typos, which is not what Ann-Marie Klein or myself were told yesterday. It apparently depends who you talk to and how you phrase the question, in terms of what are typos and what are actual changes. In fact, it appears that no one can say what really are typos or deliberate intentions by the Zoning Commission as the Zoning Commission will not respond to the draft until after the public hearing on Monday. They will respond on October 6 at a meeting at City Hall at 6 PM, but t

Plans for an apartment complex on the former Mary Journey's Inn property appear to be moving forward. The developer, Arthur Hersh, had to renew the approvals he obtained five years ago as they have expired. The project's original site plan is considered to be still valid. At P&Z's initial approval five years ago, the P&Z Commission requested that the developer improve the look of the facade facing Fairfield Avenue, but no mention of that was made at the January 28, 2008 hearing. Discussion was limited to the public access walkway and landscape plans leading to Ash Creek.

Black Rock restaurant denied tent request
BRIDGEPORT — Members of the Zoning Board of Appeals weren't feeling charitable toward a Black Rock restaurant's St. Baldrick's fundraiser for children with cancer Tuesday night.
The Field restaurant's request to modify a variance for a tent to house the fundraiser in conjunction with its annual St. Patrick's Day celebration was denied by the board.

The conditions of the the Zoning Board of Appeal's approval of Harborview Market's request to continue to operate as a restaurant have finally been made public and they are VERY restrictive. No more evening social gatherings of any kind -- no birthday parties, art openings, victory parties, or other events which we have enjoyed so much in the past. It also means we cannot even hold meetings there to discuss community issues after 6 PM.
