December 8 Update: The plans have changed since they were published on the blog. Gail spoke to Art Harris at Public Facilities, who is in charge of the Ellsworth Field project and he said the final plans will be available for viewing along with the drawings at the North End Library at 6 PM. This will provide the public with half an hour to review the plans prior to the beginning of the meeting at 6:30 PM.

The Black Rock Homeowners' Association is publishing a monthly newsletter (print out attachment). BRHA has changed it's schedule of meetings from monthly to quarterly and will use the monthly newsletter to keep members up-to-date between meetings. They are also promoting a "Stimulus Package" to encourage current members to ask new members to join. Both old and new members will get 50% off of their membership dues. Rep. Auden Grogins is sponsoring an informal meeting on the current and future state of education in Connecticut on Tuesday, October 6 at 7 PM at the Black Rock Library, 2705 Fairfield Avenue. This is being presented in conjunction with Black Rock Families for Excellence. State Rep. Auden Grogins, is a member of the Education Committee and State Rep. Plans by a non-profit organization to change the zoning for 124 Old Battery Road to create a residential facility for 50 people have been dropped. After a June meeting with residents, most of whom expressed opposition to changing the zoning from residential to non-residential use, the non-profit decided not to move forward with plans for a residential school for autistic adults at the Chimneys and has instead set its sights on using a building at 515 Washington Avenue for a non-residential school. The Washington Avenue location is currently the organization’s headquarters.

Specifications for developers interested in submitting proposals for the former Black Rock Bank & Trust building on Fairfield Avenue were released this past week by the city. The city currently owns the building that had previously housed the Black Rock Art Center for the past five years at the corner of Fairfield Avenue and Brewster Street. Our Historic District needs to be protected from a potential development that could impact your property values and significantly change the fabric of our community. The Historic House at 340 - 344 Brewster Street was purchased by a developer who knocked down over twenty trees - with Mayoral support wanted to demolish the house. Now they propose to build THREE CONDOMINIUM buildings at the back of the Historic property, accessed via the existing three car garage at the front of the house with a fire access to the left of the house and restore the house.
