At the Black Rock NRZ meeting on January 25, residents got a preview of the the plans for the Metro Center Rail Station that is now slated to be up and running in mid-2011. Earlier media reports predicted that the station would be operational by the end of this summer based on earlier plans for a temporary parking lot. It has since been decided to move forward with the permanent parking lot, so the time for completion has been moved back.
Attached are an updated agenda and the minutes of the October 26, 2009 meeting. The agenda updates are: Mark Barnhart, Director of Community & Economic Development for the Town of Fairfield, will discuss the new train station project (Fairfield Metro Center) that will be located at the end of Black Rock Turnpike. Plans by a non-profit organization to change the zoning for 124 Old Battery Road to create a residential facility for 50 people have been dropped. After a June meeting with residents, most of whom expressed opposition to changing the zoning from residential to non-residential use, the non-profit decided not to move forward with plans for a residential school for autistic adults at the Chimneys and has instead set its sights on using a building at 515 Washington Avenue for a non-residential school. The Washington Avenue location is currently the organization’s headquarters.
Specifications for developers interested in submitting proposals for the former Black Rock Bank & Trust building on Fairfield Avenue were released this past week by the city. The city currently owns the building that had previously housed the Black Rock Art Center for the past five years at the corner of Fairfield Avenue and Brewster Street.
