Black Rock Summit

On Saturday, March 7, two members of each Black Rock community organization were invited to attend a meeting to develop strategies and plans for working together. Our community has become a model for other neighborhoods in the city to emulate because of the deep involvement in civic activities by our residents. The Black Rock Community Council, which was established in 1978, took the lead role in sponsoring the Black Rock Summit and inviting the participants, which included our State Representative Auden Grogins and City Councilperson Sue Brannelly.

Brewster Street Partners has put themselves on the agenda (see below) for the Historic District Commission the day after the Election.  We understand they will be presenting a proposal for five duplexes in addition to tearing down the house at 340 Brewster, saying it is beyond repair.

Thanks to a hefty turnout and a long procession of excellent presentations, all five Historic District Commissioners denied Brewster Street Partners' request for a certificate of appropriateness! Everybody won!  Black Rock won!  So many made it happen -- whether it was sending e-mails, passing out fliers, talking it up at the Harborview, meeting to develop strategies, and attending meetings (long ones and ones that didn't happen)  Special thanks to the Black Rock Homeowners

The developers asked for a continuance at the September 4 hearing before the Historic District Commission.  The hearing will take place in November  7 at 6 PM at City Hall on Lyons Terrace in Room 305

We (BRHA) wish to inform you that a developer proposes to build a 13 unit townhouse complex in the Historic District at 344 Brewster Street (at the flagpole). A single-family house and oversize lot exists there today.

The developers will seek approval for this proposal at the September Historic District meeting.
