There will be a Mardi Gras celebration to benefit the Children’s Summer Reading Program:

Location:    Black Rock Library at 2705 Fairfield Avenue

When:       Saturday, February 13, 2010

Time:        6:00 pm to 9:00 pm

Tickets:     Advanced sales $25 per person/$40 for two

                 At the door $30 per person

For advance tickets:   Purchase them at any Bridgeport Library or reserve them by calling Dolores at 203-296-4039 and pick them up the door.

Black Rock Summit

On Saturday, March 7, two members of each Black Rock community organization were invited to attend a meeting to develop strategies and plans for working together. Our community has become a model for other neighborhoods in the city to emulate because of the deep involvement in civic activities by our residents. The Black Rock Community Council, which was established in 1978, took the lead role in sponsoring the Black Rock Summit and inviting the participants, which included our State Representative Auden Grogins and City Councilperson Sue Brannelly.

An update on the status of  Black Rock Library will be presented by City Librarian Scott Hughes and architect Mark Halstead  at our next membership meeting to be held this Thursday, April 10th, 7 PM at the Burroughs Community Center. Other items on the agenda include public safety initiatives, lighthouse stabilization efforts, Black Rock Day planning and of course a social complete with refreshments immediately following the meeting.  Thanks and see you Thursday.

After numerous delays, construction on the new $4 million Black Rock library has begun.  A groundbreaking ceremony is set for Monday, October 29 at 10 AM at the Library,which is located at the corner of Fairfield Avenue and Melrose Avenue
