I'd like to give an update on the status of the trees at St. Mary's.

 

If you haven't yet heard, 15 trees at St. Mary's were vandalized Saturday night about 11:30pm.  Someone with a chainsaw cut a full ring cut to the trunks of all but two of the trees from the beach to the flagpole.

Osprey platform 1.jpg

A new osprey nesting platform has been erected on Burr Creek in Black Rock.  The Arthur Street Neighbors Committee received city permission to build and install a wooden nesting platform for ospreys on an unused utility pole on a small city green space directly on Burr Creek.  The platform was put into place on November 21, 2009.

An important ruling in environmental law has just come out of the Ash Creek Conservation Association's most recent litigation against the State of Connecticut in its continuing effort to protect the Ash Creek tidal estuary.  As you know, the Ash Creek tidal estuary is a fragile and important ecosystem because it is one of the few remaining stopover and feeding areas for migratory shorebirds as well serving as a natural shellfish bed for oysters.  Allowing docks in this shallow tidal estuary has never made sense because it encourages powerboat traffic whic

The Fairfield Inland Wetlands Commission approved the Long Term Conservation Area Management Plan proposed by Blackrock Realty, the developer of the Fairfield Metro Center project, at a May 15 meeting, in a 4-0 vote with one abstention.
