The BRCC is hosting a reception for Paula Butturini to celebrate her recently published book Keeping the Feast. Paula, who grew up in Black Rock, has spent her career as a journalist in Europe and spent many years covering the travels of Pope John Paul II. The reception will take place on Friday, March 5th from 5-7 at the Burroughs Community Center.

A former Black Rocker, Paula Butturini has written a book called Keeping the Feast, about her family's life that includes growing up in Black Rock. Her dad still lives in Black Rock. The writer will be speaking on Sunday, February 28 at 2 PM at the Fairfield Public Library, 1080 Old Post Road, Fairfield. The Black Rock Community Council is sponsoring Black Rock Day on Sunday, June 13. There will be a Road Race at 9 AM followed by a Parade at noon and a Festival right after the noon parade. December 8 Update: The plans have changed since they were published on the blog. Gail spoke to Art Harris at Public Facilities, who is in charge of the Ellsworth Field project and he said the final plans will be available for viewing along with the drawings at the North End Library at 6 PM. This will provide the public with half an hour to review the plans prior to the beginning of the meeting at 6:30 PM.

Annual Tree Lighting in Black Rock at flagpole (Grovers & Brewster) on Sunday, December 6. Attended by over 200 residents of Black Rock. Children's choir, roasted chestnuts, bonfire, mulled cider, tree lighting, and of course, Santa came on a red fire truck. The ornaments at the top of the tree were made by classmates at Longfellow School of the children who died in the fire at P.T. Barnum Apartments recently.

The BRCC Public Safety Committee meets monthly with representatives from the Patrol Division and the Strategic Enforcement Team (SET) to discuss any public safety concerns in the neighborhood.
