Acoustic Cafe (335-3655) - The Lawn Boys and Consider the Source will play on Friday (11/28) at 9 PM (tickets: $5).  Hoover will perform on Saturday (11/29) at 9 PM with Matt York opening.  Tickets are $5.

As you may know from our past posts, this past spring two osprey parents raised two chicks and all have now flown South for the winter.  Their return is anticipated for the Spring.  In the meantime, you can go to the Aspetuck Land Trust website to see 360 degree panaoramic photos of the osprey nest on Great Marsh Island in the Ash Creek tidal estuary at www.aspetucklandtrust.org

If you would like to receive e-mail updates on community events, please register for updates (see right sidebar).  On the registration page you can decide whether to register for just community updates, or for the Ash Creek Conservation Association updates, or for real estate updates, or any combination of the three.   The updates sometimes include invitations to special events or late breaking news.  We also use the e-mail updates to send out Block Watch alerts.

On Monday, July 9th, the Black Rock Neighborhood Revitalization Zone Committee selected officers to lead the effort for Black Rock’s future.  With a forum present, the committee elected three officers to lead the effort along with the Zared Group, to initiate priorities for Black Rock as part of the City of Bridgeport’s Master Plan.  The Black Rock residents elected were:
President: Lori Baker
Vice President: Kristine Demarco
Recording Secretary: John M. Lee

Ecopsychology & Ash Creek

There is a new branch of psychology that contends that involvement with nature is necessary to our mental health.  Living in Black Rock, we have an amazing natural resource within our community -- the Ash Creek tidal estuary.  The Ash Creek tidal estuary is one of the few remaining feeding stopover areas for palearctic shorebirds as they travel from Hudson Bay in the Arctic Circle to as far south as Argentina.  This fabulous migration occurs in the fall and spring.

The Black Rock Community Council will once again sponsor the annual Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony, which will take place on Sunday, December 7th beginning at 5 PM at the Brewster St. flagpole.  Festivities will  include music, hot chocolate and cookies, a visit from Santa, chestnuts roasting on an open fire and of course the tree lighting.
