The following articles and press releases on the progress of the Black Rock train station and the Fairfield Metro Complex can be found on the Fairfield Metro Center website:
Fairfield Project Begins Signing New Tenants
Wittek Development and New Rochelle, N.Y.-based Rugby Realty Co., jointly known as Blackrock Realty LLC, said that they expect to break ground on the mixed-use development in July.
The first phase is slated to include a concourse building for the train station, retail pavilion and 89,000 square feet of office space. Also part of this phase are a 40,000-square-foot fitness center, a 185-room Hilton hotel and one of four 200,000-square-foot office buildings. The target completion date for the first phase is January 2010.
DEP Okays Black Rock Realty Development
In the article, Blackrock Realty says that it plans in July to begin preparing its site for construction. That work would include "capping" contaminated soil with a plastic liner and asphalt; creating wetlands on the western part of the property; reconstructing the shoreline of Ash Creek; building an interior road through the property; and bringing in utility lines. The soil is contaminated mostly with casting sand from the years that the Bullard Co. foundry operated on the property. The DEP previously approved the town and Blackrock Realty's plan to cap the contaminated soil.
In January, Blackrock Realty plans to build foundations for the development.
The first phase of the project should be done in late 2009 or early 2010 and will include everything but three office buildings, which means the train station should be up and running in early 2010.
