The Black Rock Garden Club held their annual tree planting initiative on April 26.  This year they planted 7 elm trees in the neighborhood.  The elms are a disease resistant variety, supplied by the Elm Research Institute in New Hampshire.  They are ordered the 1 1/4" to 2" caliper variety.  Each of these trees are 10'-12' tall.  The trees will be financed by contributions from the garden club, local Black Rock businesses and residents, as well as a $100 contibution from each homeowner.  If you want more details abou the elms, check out http://www.libertyelm.com/ In order for this initiative to be successful, the tree committee needs your help in three ways. 1.  We are still looking for interested homeowners who would like to have an elm in front of their home.  An ideal sites needs to be 10' from the street (within the city right of way), have at least a 3' wide strip of grass, and since elms grow tall, no overhead wires.  If you always wanted a street tree for your house, or you think a friend or neighbor needs one, now is the time to act.  We have to finalize our order by next Tuesday, April 8th. 2.  We need help planting on April 26th. We will be hand digging the holes this year.  Anyone who wants a post arbor day tree planting workout is more than welcome. Please contact me if you are interested in participating and I will give you all the details. 3. We need donations of mulch.  Please let me know if you have any questions, need additonal information, or if you want a tree. Thank you,
